The Chino High School Counseling Program is committed to the success of every student by providing innovative and compassionate service in an environment of mutual respect.  Our mission is to provide quality counseling and education to empower all students to be successful academically, vocationally, and personally.

Meet the Counselors
Annette Allen
Ext. 3713
Alpha: A - Er
Annette Allen earned her BA in Sociology from Cal Poly, Pomona and teaching credential
from Cal State University San Bernardino. Additionally she earned a Master's in
Education with a P.P.S. from Azusa Pacific University. She began her career teaching
elementary school in Chino USD in 1993. She also served as a BTSA Support provider,
mentoring new teachers. In 2008, she came to Chino High School to pursue one of her life
goals in being high school guidance counselor.  She considers it a blessing and a
privilege to serve as the Advisor for the Christians on Campus Club. Mrs. Allen and her
husband, Chris have 3 children. They enjoy spending time at the beach, coaching their
children's sports teams, and attending church together.
Krista Borgogno

Krista Borgogno started working as a counselor in the Chino-Valley
Unified School District in 2006.  She transferred to Chino High School in
2011.  She attended Cal State Fullerton, received a Bachelor's degree in
Psychology.  She earned her teaching credential from Cal Poly Pomona and her
Master's degree from Azusa Pacific University.  Krista and her husband, Mate'
have four sons.  She spends most of her time watching her boys play youth
sports.  She also enjoys boating and spending time with her extended family.

Lucia Gibbs

Lucia Sanceau Gibbs is a former alum of Chino High School.  She follows a long line of 
Chino alum (beginning with her grandfather in 1950), so she has a special place in her
heart for Chino High.  She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of
California,Riverside, and her Masters, P.P.S. and teaching credentials from Azusa
Pacific University.  She began working at Chino High School as a teacher in 1998, taught
for three years and became a counselor in 2001.  Some of her fondest memories in
education have been working with Peer Counseling and all of her amazing and
unforgettable students.  She and her husband have three boys and her favorite time
spent is with her family, camping, hiking, watching them play sports and just enjoying
each other's company.

Gail Heisel
Ext. 3714
Special Education
Ms.  Heisel earned her BA in Behavioral Science in 1982 and her MS in School
Counseling in 1988, both from the University of La Verne.  She spent her first five
years in the CVUSD working part-time as a counselor at the Adult School and
then moved to a full-time position at Ayala HS in 1995.  She transferred to Chino
High School in 2006 when her son was a sophomore at the school.  Now she has
two CHS graduates in college and her youngest daughter is in the 11th grade. 
Ms.  Heisel has a special place in her heart for the special education population at
CHS, which she has worked with now for almost four years.  She also enjoys working
and living in the same community and seeing her students "around town".

Sandy Gonzales
Ext. 3734
Ms. Sandy Gonzales graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in
Kinesiology in 1991 and taught for seven years.  She earned her Master of Educational
Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services credential from Azusa Pacific University in
2000.  Ms. Gonzales moved to the city of Chino in 2003 and in 2005 transferred to
Chino Valley Unified School District and has worked as an Intervention Counselor.
She transferred to Chino High School 2012 as the Intervention Counselor. 
Ms.  Gonzales is a mother of two children. She is very active with her children's school,
sports, and church.  She enjoys participating in running events, Laker games,
Disneyland, and beach bike rides with her children.

Adult School Summer Session
Current juniors, Class of 2015, need to register for (Adult School) summer classes with their counselor beginning May 26th - June 11th.

(Adult) Summer School hours:
9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
2:15 P.M. - 5:15 P.M.
5:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.

High School Summer Session
Registration for (High School) summer school will begin May 5 - May 23. Students must register with their counselor.
(High School) Summer School Hours:
7:30 A.M. - 11:45 A.M.
*Includes a 15 minute nutrition break

Session 1 - Wednesday, June 18 - Thursday, July 3, 2014
Session 2 - Tuesday, July 8 - Wednesday, July 23, 2014
* No school: Friday, July 4 and Monday July 7
AP Parent Information Night
AP Parent Information Night will be on Wednesday, April 30, in the MPR from 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.
It is required for a parent to attend.

Instant Grade Check
Parents: Are you concerned about your child's progress? If so, print out an "Instant Grade Check" from the FORMS section at the bottom of this page. Your child can take this to his/her teachers once a week. If the grade is below your expectation, contact the teacher immediately. Extra help can be provided.
Juniors and sophomores: Sign up for the PLAN/PSAT: These tests help to prepare you for the real SAT or ACT that you will take at the end of junior year. The PLAN/PSAT will be held during October.

Sophomore Career Exploration lessson
During the fall, Counselors will meet with all sophomores via their World History classes to explore careers. How should students pick their future careers so that they match their talents and interests? Students will determine their "Holland Code." See this link for more information:

College Preparation and Outreach Opportunities
Chino High has a variety of special programs to help students become prepared for college acceptance. Please make an appointment with your counselor for more information.
Cal Poly Talent Search: Any student in grades 9-12 who will be the first in the family to attend a university and/or is enrolled in the free/reduced lunch program can participate in a program to prepare for college admission.
AVID:  Students who are motivated to excel, may be the first in their family to attend a university are encouraged to consider the AVID program. This is an elective class that the student attends each day.
UC summer programs/Private college summer programs: Many local schools offer special summer programs. Costs vary. Programs are designed for high achieving students. See Mrs. Prescott in the Career Center for more information.
Mt. SAC/Chaffey College: Students who have completed 10th grade, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher can take college courses free of charge if the student lives in the college zone. See Mrs. Prescott in the Career Center for more information.
